Extension Housing Gasket - Rear Wheel Drive (RWD)
Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. Remove the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.
3. Remove the insulator and retainer nuts.
4. Using a suitable transmission jack, raise and support the transmission.
5. Remove the insulator and retainer bolts.
6. Remove the insulator and retainer.
7. Remove the 4 extension housing screws and 2 studs.
8. NOTE: The park pawl, park pawl return spring and park pawl shaft could fall out during removal of the extension housing.
Remove the extension housing. Discard the extension housing gasket.
Installation
1. Clean the extension housing and install a new extension housing gasket. Make sure that the park pawl, spring and shaft are correctly installed.
2. NOTE: Make sure the park lever actuating rod is correctly seated into the case park rod guide cup.
Install the extension housing.
1. Position the extension housing.
2. Install the 4 extension housing screws.
3. Install the 2 extension housing studs.
- Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
3. Position the insulator and retainer on the extension housing.
4. Install the insulator and retainer bolts.
5. Install the insulator and retainer into the crossmember and tighten the insulator and retainer nuts and bolts.
- Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).
6. Install the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.
7. Check the transmission fluid level, add transmission fluid as necessary.
- Verify for correct operation.
- Check for leaks.
8. Verify park operation. Be sure that the park assembly holds the vehicle stationary when the selector lever is in the PARK position.
