Extension Housing Seal and Bushing









Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.

2. Remove the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.

3. Using the Torque Converter Fluid Seal Remover and the Slide Hammer, remove the extension housing seal.





4. NOTICE: Use the Transmission Extension Housing Bushing Remover carefully so that the seal area is not damaged.

Using the Transmission Extension Housing Bushing Remover, remove the extension housing bushing.





Installation

1. NOTICE: The lube hole in the extension housing bushing must be aligned with the lube groove in the extension housing. This groove is located at the 3 o'clock position when viewed from the rear. Failure to align the bushing can result in bushing damage.

NOTE: Inspect the counterbore of the extension housing for burrs. Remove any burrs from the extension housing counterbore with an oil stone.

Position the extension housing bushing into the extension housing.





2. NOTE: The Transmission Extension Housing Bushing Installer will bottom when bushing is in the correct position.

Using the Transmission Extension Housing Bushing Installer, install the extension housing bushing.





3. Position new extension housing seal with drain hole in the 6 o'clock position.





4. Using the Transmission Extension Housing Fluid Seal Installer, install the extension housing seal.





5. Install the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Drive/Propeller Shafts, Bearings and Joints.

6. Check the transmission fluid level, add transmission fluid as necessary.
- Verify for correct operation.

- Check for leaks.
