Disassembly

1. Disassemble the reverse idler gear.

1. Remove the reverse idler gear retaining ring.

2. Remove the spacer.

3. Remove the reverse idler gear.

4. Remove the reverse idler gear bearing.

5. Remove the reverse idler gear thrust washer.





2. Inspect all components for wear or damage. Install new components as necessary.

- The reverse idler gear is not serviced separately. A kit consisting of the output shaft reverse gear, the countershaft reverse gear and the reverse idler gear is available for service. All 3 gears in the kit must be installed. The replacement gears are not compatible with the existing gears.

Assembly

1. Assemble the reverse idler gear.

1. Install the reverse idler gear thrust washer.

2. Install the reverse idler gear bearing.

3. Install the reverse idler gear.

4. Install the spacer.

5. Install the reverse idler gear retaining ring.





2. Measure the reverse idler gear end play.

- If end play is not within specification, install a retaining ring of correct thickness.
