Battery: Description and Operation




Battery and Cables

A 72 ampere-hour, maintenance-free battery, mounted in the forward RH side of the engine compartment, is standard.

The battery system consists of the following components:

- Battery
- Battery cables
- Battery case
- Auxiliary battery
- Auxiliary battery cables
- Auxiliary battery case

The auxiliary frame-mounted battery option includes a remotely packaged frame-mounted 78 ampere-hour, maintenance-free battery. The auxiliary frame-mounted battery is located on the RH frame rail to the rear of the B-pillar. The auxiliary frame-mounted battery is used to supply the trailer circuits with power when the vehicle is not running. The auxiliary frame-mounted battery is connected in parallel with the battery. The auxiliary frame-mounted battery uses the same cable as the standard battery.

Ford Motor Company strongly recommends that lead-acid batteries be returned to an authorized recycling facility for disposal.
