High-Voltage Converter/Inverter

Pinpoint Test E: DTC P0563

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 12, Charging System for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation

The PCM monitors the 12-volt battery system voltage through the Smart Junction Box (SJB) and will set a DTC if the system voltage rises above a set threshold.

- DTC P0563 (System Voltage High)- If the PCM detects a voltage from the charging system higher than 15.2 volts with vehicle speed above 8 km/h (5 mph), this DTC will be set.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- 12-volt battery jump started or incorrectly charged

- Customer-installed accessory

- DC/DC converter

PINPOINT TEST E : DTC P0563

E1 CHECK VOLTAGE AT THE DC/DC CONVERTER

- START the vehicle (Ready Indicator Light ON).

- Turn off the headlamps, blower and any other accessories.

- Measure the voltage of the battery.

Is the voltage less than 16 volts?

Yes
GO to E2.

No
GO to E3.

E2 TEST BATTERY CONDITION

- Ignition OFF.

- Carry out the battery condition test Pinpoint Tests.

Did the battery pass the condition test?

Yes
GO to E4.

No
DTC P0563 was most likely set due to the 12-volt battery being recently jump started or incorrectly charged using a battery charger. INSTALL a new battery. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-tests. TEST the system for normal operation. If DTC P0563 is still present, GO to E3.

E3 INSPECT VEHICLE ACCESSORIES

- Ignition OFF.

- Inspect the vehicle and disable any customer installed accessories.

- START the vehicle (Ready Indicator Light ON).

- Measure the voltage of the battery.

Is the voltage less than 16 volts?

Yes
COMMUNICATE the accessory concern to the customer. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-tests. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to E4.

E4 CLEAR DTCs AND CARRY OUT SELF-TEST OF THE PCM

- Ignition ON.

- Connect the scan tool.

- Using the scan tool, clear the PCM DTCs.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- PCM.

Is DTC P0563 reported in the PCM?

Yes
INSTALL a new DC/DC converter. REFER to Direct Current/Direct Current (DC/DC) Converter . REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The concern is not present at this time. DTC P0563 was most likely set due to the 12-volt battery being recently jump started or incorrectly charged using a battery charger. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
