Truck Bed: Service and Repair


Pickup Bed

NOTE: Eight-foot pickup bed shown, all others similar.







Removal and Installation

NOTE:
- If adding a fifth wheel hitch as a dealer installed accessory, follow the instructions outlined in the Fifth Wheel Hitch instruction sheet to modify the pickup bed floor.
- F-Super Duty vehicles offer a Tough Bed(R) option. This consists of a special highly durable, multipart resin which is applied directly to the pickup bed in the assembly plant. Repair of the Tough Bed(R) has been identified in 2 levels of repairability.

Level 1 damage conditions should be 25.4 mm (1 in) or less in diameter.
- Drip`
- Run
- Sag
- Gouge
- Scrape
- Raised blisters

A repair kit has been developed to fix level 1 damage.
Level 2 damage repairs are any defects not meeting level 1 criteria. These repairs require special equipment and must be carried out at a Ford-approved facility using Ford-approved materials.

All Vehicles
1. Remove the tailgate.
2. Disconnect the pickup bed rear lighting electrical connector and pushpin retainer.







Fifth Wheel Equipped Vehicles
3. Disconnect the fifth wheel trailer lighting electrical connector and pushpin retainer.







Gas Engines
4. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe retaining screws and position the filler pipe aside.







5. NOTE: 8-foot pickup box uses an additional fuel filler pipe holding bracket.

Release the fuel filler pipe from the holding bracket.







Diesel Engines
6. Remove the reductant tank filler cap and tether strap.
- Remove the fuel tank filler pipe retaining screws and position the filler pipe aside.
- Remove the reductant tank filler pipe retaining screws and position the filler pipe aside.







7. NOTE: 8-foot pickup box with diesel applications use an additional reductant filler pipe holding bracket.

If equipped, release the reductant filler pipe from the holding bracket.







All Vehicles

8. NOTICE: The pickup bed bolts are different lengths. Pay particular attention to the location of each of these bolts to avoid the risk of damage to surrounding components during installation.

NOTE: The pickup bed bolts are a one-time-use and are replaced with new bolts whenever the pickup bed is removed.

Remove and discard the pickup bed bolts.
- To install, tighten to 80 Nm 59 lb-ft).







9. NOTICE: Handle the pickup bed carefully when removing from the vehicle to avoid damage to the cab or bed finish.

NOTE:
- If necessary have assistance when removing the pickup bed from the vehicle.

Carefully lift and remove the pickup bed from the vehicle.

10. NOTE: New attachment clips must be installed whenever the pickup bed is removed.

Install new attachment clips before reinstalling the pickup bed.

11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
