FORD: 1986-87 TAURUS
LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1986-87 SABLE
ISSUE: A new design power steering gear is used on vehicles built after January 30, 1987. The steering gear check valve is relocated to the inside of the pressure port where the power steering pressure line attaches on these new gears. Also, a new heat shield is used on vehicles with 2.5L engines. The new design steering gear may be used to service vehicles built before January 30, 1987. However, if the new gear is used, the new heat shield needs to be installed on 2.5L engine applications.
