Computers and Control Systems: Description and Operation

Fig. 1 Electronic control assembly:

The engine control system covers both the 1.3L Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) models and the 1.3L Feedback Carbureted (FBC) models. This is a computer controlled precision fuel delivery system. The Electronic Control Assembly (ECA) is a microprocessor, Fig. 1, that controls the system operation. The ECA receives data from various sensors and switches. The ECA contains specific calibration for emissions, fuel economy and driveability under all driving conditions. Based on information received and programmed into its memory, the ECA generates output signals to control various relays, solenoids, and other actuators. The ECA is mounted under the instrument panel near the steering column assembly.
