Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTIONThe EGR system consists of an EGR valve, a vacuum delay valve, an EGR venturi vacuum amplifier, an EGR solenoid vacuum valve, an ECT switch, the ECA and, on California models, an EVP sensor. The ECA transmits a signal to open the EGR valve when coolant temperature is above 140°F in response to intake manifold vacuum. Exhaust gases are directed into the intake manifold through the EGR valve and burned to control emissions into the atmosphere.
