Distributor, Assemble


1. Install a new bearing into housing.
2. Wrap end of shaft to protect new seal, then replace seal with lip facing drive end.
3. Install inner shim on shaft and insert shaft through bearing.
4. Install outer shim on shaft, then position drive tang and pilot in drive slot.
5. Install a new cross pin, peening ends to secure it in place.
6. Install suppression capacitor on distributor housing.
7. Position distributor wiring harness on distributor housing and secure harness clip with retaining screw.
8. Install centrifugal advance flyweights on distributor shaft plate pivot pins. Secure weights on pins with C-clips.
9. Hook flyweight springs to shaft plate posts and flyweight spring posts.
10. Push plastic spring post caps on.
11. Install rotor shaft on distributor shaft, engaging the flyweight drive pins.
12. Install flyweight guide plate on rotor shaft, stamped side out, engaging flyweight drive pins as marked.
13. Secure flyweight plate with snap ring.
14. Replace stator plate in recess, with vacuum advance connecting pin positioned. Secure with retaining screws.
15. Rotate distributor and ensure it turns freely.
16. Install vacuum advance, engaging link to stator plate on and securing with two screws.
17. Secure stator plate pin with C-clip.
18. Install ignition module heat sink with two screws.
19. Coat ignition module mounting surface with a thin film of silicone dielectric compound, then install module with two screws.
20. Connect the module wiring harness, noting length of each lead.
21. Align armature with flat and pin groove on rotor shaft, then press it on.
22. Install new distributor cap seal ring on dust cover, then seat cover in housing.
23. Install rotor on shaft.
24. Replace the cap and wiring.
25. Connect battery ground cable.
