ISSUE: A new corporate hood latch was released for service in April, 1988. Dealers may be having some difficulty when service replacement hoods, radiator supports or hood latches are replaced on vehicles built before March 1988. When the new latch was released, changes were also made to the service hood and service radiator support.

ACTION: Use the following information to assist in servicing 1986 through 1988 vehicles built before 3/01/88.
Provisions for the auxiliary hood catch and assist spring have been removed from the service replacement hood and the service replacement radiator support. When replacing the hood or radiator support on 1986 through 1988 units built before 3/01/88 it is necessary to install the new corporate hood latch, (E8DZ-16700-A).The auxiliary hood catch and the assist spring are now part of the new hood latch, (E8DZ-16700-A). The separate auxiliary catch and assist spring that mount on the hood are no longer needed when a new hood latch is installed on vehicles built before 3/01/88.

NOTE: THE OLD STYLE HOOD LATCH, (E6DZ-16700-A) IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE. WHEN REPLACING THE HOOD LATCH ON VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 3/01/88, EITHER THE OLD STYLE OR THE NEW STYLE CAN BE USED. INSTRUCTIONS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE NEW HOOD LATCH.
