Ignition Timing: Adjustments

IGNITION TIMING

1. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.

2. Check idle speed, and adjust if necessary.

3. Turn off all electrical accessories.

4. Disconnect and plug the vacuum advance hoses to the distributor.

Distributor Assembly:

5. Disconnect the white altitude connector at the distributor.


6. Connect a timing light.

Timing Marks:

7. Check the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and timing case. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for correct timing at idle.

Ignition Timing:

8. If timing is not within limits, loosen the distributor mounting bolts and rotate the distributor to advance or retard the timing; clockwise to advance, counterclockwise to retard.

9. Tighten the mounting bolts and disconnect the timing light.

10. Connect the vacuum advance hoses and the white altitude connector.

11. Recheck the idle speed and adjust if necessary.
