Test 15, Ignition Secondary Display


1. Connect oscilloscope to view display of the ignition secondary system.
2. Slowly raise engine speed to 2,000 RPM.
3. Check for firing spikes which are appreciably lower or higher (5KV) than other cylinders.
4. Normal firing spikes should be approximately 15 KV.
5. Expand pattern to inspect individual firing spikes. If all spikes are below or above specifications, check rotor, distributor cap, spark plugs, plug wires or coil wire to distributor cable.
