PROGRAM TIMING - ADDITIONAL COVERAGE - 36,000 Miles/36 Months in
service or through the end of July 1992 whichever provides the greatest coverage.


AFFECTED All 1989 Probe vehicles, built from Job # 1
VEHICLES through June 15, 1989 are covered by this
program.


REASONS FOR The outer metal wrapping on the muffler may
THIS PROGRAM rust and peel away from the muffler.

Severe rust may also be clearly visible on the rear face of the muffler.

The internal construction of the muffler (sound baffles) is not affected and the muffler is fully functional.

To correct this condition, dealers are to replace externally rusted and/or peeling mufflers only.


PROGRAM Certain owners of 1989 Probe vehicles will
COVERAGE/REFUND be notified of a no-charge extended muffler

coverage. Coverage will be provided up to 36,000 miles/36 months or through the end of July 1992 whichever provides the greatest coverage.


Refunds are available for customer paid muffler replacement within program coverage provisions.

INSPECTION If inspection reveals a replacement NON-OEM
muffler that is not rusted and the outer metal shell is not peeling:

^ The customer may choose to keep the after-market muffler and accept a refund; or

^ The customer may have a Ford service muffler installed in place of a cash refund.
