Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Adjustments

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.

2. Remove the engine air cleaner.

3. Remove the shift cable and bracket from the manual control shift outer lever. Use a screwdriver or suitable tool to pry the shift cable and bracket from the manual control shift outer lever.

CAUTION: Apply the parking brake and block the wheel and tire assemblies. Place the gearshift lever in NEUTRAL (N) before removing the shift cable and bracket.

4. Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) switch electrical connector.

5. Remove the manual control lever nut, washer, and lever.

6. Loosen the TR switch bolts.

7. Rotate the TR switch neutral mark so that it lines up with the manual control lever.

8. Install the manual control shift outer lever, washer, and the manual control lever nut. Tighten the manual control lever nut to 32-46 Nm (24-33 lb ft). Tighten the TR switch bolts to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).

9. Connect the TR switch electrical connector.

10. Install the shift cable and bracket on the manual control shift outer lever.

11. Use Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-00051 or equivalent to ensure that there is continuity between the terminals. Use the chart to determine which terminals to check between.

12. Install the engine air cleaner.

13. Connect the battery ground cable.
