EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) control solenoid and vent solenoid are not serviceable separately. If either solenoid requires service, replace the EGR solenoid valve assembly.

EGR Control Solenoid

Control Solenoid:

1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.
2. Blow into the EGR control solenoid and verify that air does not flow.
3. Disconnect the EGR control solenoid electrical connector.

Control Solenoid:

4. Apply battery voltage and a ground to the EGR control solenoid as shown.
5. Blow through the EGR control solenoid and verify that air flows.
6. If not as specified, replace the EGR solenoid valve assembly.

EGR Vent Solenoid

Vent Solenoid:

1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses.
2. Blow through the EGR vent solenoid and verify that air flows.
3. Disconnect the EGR vent solenoid electrical connector.

Vent Solenoid:

4. Apply battery voltage and a ground to the EGR vent solenoid as shown.
5. Blow into the EGR vent solenoid and verify that air does not flow.
6. If not as specified, replace the EGR solenoid assembly.
