Compressor
When A/C compressor is inoperative due to internal causes, clean the refrigerant system by flushing or filtering to remove any debris or contaminants and prevent damage to the replacement A/C compressor.Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is necessary when the A/C compressor is replaced.
The A/C evaporator core orifice should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor is replaced for lack of performance, or when there is debris in the system.
REMOVAL
1. From inside vehicle, pull hood lock release handle to release hood.
2. Lift hood and support with hood support rod.
3. Recover the system following the recommended service procedures. Observe all safety precautions. Refrigerant Recovery
4. Raise vehicle.
5. Remove right front wheel.
6. Remove two retaining screws and engine and transmission splash shield from vehicle.
7. Remove drive belt.
8. Remove radiator air deflector
9. Drain cooling system.
10. Disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator and position hose to improve access to A/C compressor retaining bolts.
11. Disconnect A/C clutch wire connector from A/C clutch.
12. Loosen A/C manifold retainer bolt and remove from A/C manifold and tube, Cap the A/C manifold and tube and A/C compressor to prevent the entrance of dirt and moisture.
13. Remove A/C compressor retaining bolts.
14. Remove A/C compressor from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
2. Install A/C compressor and retaining bolts. Tighten compressor retaining bolts to 20-30 N.m (15-22 Lb-Ft).
3. Lubricate new O-ring seals with clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford Specification WSH-M1C231-B and position them in O-ring seal grooves of the A/C compressor.
4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford Specification WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to threads of manifold retaining bolt.
NOTE: When replacing A/C compressor. use original manifold bolt from removed A/C compressor to retain A/C manifold and tube to new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping bolts.
5. Position A/C manifold and tube with O-ring seals to A/C compressor. Install retaining bolt and tighten to 17-23 N.m (13-17.0 Lb-Ft).
6. Connect the A/C clutch wires to the A/C clutch connector.
7. Connect lower radiator hose to radiator.
8. Install radiator air deflector.
9. Install drive belt.
10. Install engine and transmission splash shield and two retaining screws.
11. Install front wheel.
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Fill cooling system.
14. Leak-test, evacuate and charge the system. Observe all safety precautions. Service and Repair
15. Check the system for proper operation.
