Removal and Installation
REMOVAL1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected or reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM)relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 18 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Remove cowl vent screens.
3. Disconnect upper speedometer cable from lower speedometer cable.
4. Remove floor console panel.
5. Remove steering column tube.
6. Remove instrument cluster.
7. Remove the radio chassis and digital audio compact disc player if equipped.
8. Remove heater A/C control.
9. Remove the LH switch plate finish panel.
10. Remove glove compartment.
11. Remove RH center body pillar inside lower finish panel.
RH Cowl Panel:
12. Disconnect wiring harness connectors and ground connections at RH side cowl panel. Disconnect one ground wire from under RH floor carpet.
13. Pull front door opening weatherstrip off at instrument panel location. Remove main mounting bolt cover on RH side.
14. Remove two instrument panel retaining screws at LH glove compartment opening.
15. Disconnect two main wiring harness connectors at instrument panel fuse junction panel.
16. Disconnect five wiring harness connectors at rear of fuse junction panel.
17. Disconnect three wiring connectors to stoplight switch.
18. Remove rubber grommet from upper speedometer cable at dash panel.
19. From under instrument panel pry upper speedometer cable out of center bracket at dash panel.
20. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel at steering column tube opening.
21. Pull front door opening weatherstrip off at instrument panel location. Remove LH main mounting bolt cover.
22. Remove two bolts retaining passenger side air bag to instrument panel reinforcement.
23. Disconnect radio antenna from radio chassis.
24. Cut wire ties retaining demister hoses to instrument panel reinforcement.
25. Disconnect wiring harness to radio amplifier.
26. Remove four instrument panel mounting bolts (two each side).
NOTE: Removal and Installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people.
27. Gently lift instrument panel away from dash panel. Remove instrument panel.
28. If instrument panel is being replaced, transfer all components, wiring and hardware to new instrument panel.
INSTALLATION
1. Apply a 10 mm (1/8 inch) bead of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F1AZ-19562-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSE-M4G320-A2 to instrument panel brace as shown.
2. Position instrument panel in vehicle. Install four instrument panel mounting bolts (two each side).
NOTE: Removal and Installation of the instrument panel is best accomplished by two people.
3. Install LH and RH main mounting bolt covers.
4. Connect wiring harness to radio amplifier.
5. Install wire ties to retain demister hoses to instrument panel reinforcement.
6. Connect radio antenna to radio chassis.
7. Install two bolts retaining passenger side air bag module to instrument panel reinforcement.
8. Install LH and RH front door opening weatherstrips to body flanges.
9. Install three screws retaining instrument panel at steering column opening.
10. Working under instrument panel, install upper speedometer cable into center bracket at dash panel. Install rubber grommet to upper speedometer cable at dash panel.
11. Connect three wiring connector to stoplight switch.
12. Connect five wiring harness connectors at rear of fuse junction panel.
13. Connect two main wiring harness connectors at instrument panel fuse junction panel.
14. Install two screws retaining instrument panel at LH side of glove compartment opening.
15. Connect wiring harness connectors and ground connections at RH side cowl panel.
RH Cowl Panel:
16. Install RH center body pillar inside lower finish panel.
17. Install glove compartment.
18. Install LH switch plate finish panel.
19. Install heater A/C control.
20. Install the radio chassis and digital compact disc player if equipped.
21. Install instrument cluster.
22. Install steering column tube.
23. Install console panel.
24. Connect upper speedometer cable to lower speedometer cable.
25. Install cowl vent screens.
26. Connect battery ground cable.
27. Check operation of all instrument panel gauges and controls.
