(SUPP. # 1) Fuel System Bleeding and Fuel Tank Venting
WARNINGDO NOT REPLACE FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS WITH PARTS NOT ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR USE WITH NATURAL GAS. THE MATERIALS, COMPONENTS AND SYSTEM CONFIGURATION FOR THE 2.0L CONTOUR COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS VEHICLE HAVE BEEN SPECIALLY DESIGNED AND EACH PARTICULAR SYSTEM IS PRECISELY CALIBRATED FOR EFFICIENT OPERATION. THE USE OF DIFFERENT PARTS OR MATERIALS COULD PRODUCE AN UNTESTED CONFIGURATION THAT COULD RESULT IN FIRE.
WARNING
EYE PROTECTION IS REQUIRED TO BE WORN DURING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
WARNING
FUEL SUPPLY LINES ARE ALWAYS PRESSURIZED. WHEN SERVICING FUEL-RELATED COMPONENTS DO NOT SMOKE, CARRY LIGHTED TOBACCO OR AN OPEN FLAME OF ANY TYPE. FLAMMABLE MIXTURES MAY BE PRESENT AND IGNITION COULD OCCUR, RESULTING IN POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
WARNING
FUEL SUPPLY LINES ARE ALWAYS PRESSURIZED. THIS PRESSURE MUST BE RELIEVED BEFORE SERVICING OF THE FUEL SYSTEM IS BEGUN.
WARNING
VEHICLE MUST BE PROPERLY GROUNDED TO VENT STACK BEFORE VENTING THE VEHICLE TANK. FAILURE TO GROUND THE VEHICLE COULD CAUSE AN EXPLOSION FROM STATIC ELECTRICITY DISCHARGE.
1. Record radio stations.
2. Remove cover from CNG fuel tank.
3. Disconnect wiring harness connector from the tank valve solenoid (connectors P120 and J120). See Figure 2.
4. Open manual valve (part of tank valve) as follows:
^ From inside luggage compartment, remove cap from manual valve. See Figure 3.
^ Using a 1/8-inch alien wrench, turn spindle clockwise until the bypass indicator groove is in-line with the face of the spindle housing (approximately 2 turns). See Figure 4.
5. Turn CNG quarter turn manual shut off valve to the closed position.See Figure 5.
6. Start and run vehicle in CNG mode until engine stalls or auto switches to gasoline (light on GFI selector switch goes out). See Figure 6. Accelerate engine to high idle (approximately 1500 rpm). Switchover will occur within 1 to 5 minutes. If "Autoswitching" does not occur within 5 minutes turn the ignition OFF and call the GFI Customer Service Hotline at 1-800-667-4275 for additional assistance.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove splash shield from compuvalve. See Figure 7.
9. Slowly crack open compuvalve inlet line. Refer to Figure 8. A slight escape of natural gas may be heard. Allow line to empty, then proceed with disconnection of fitting and discard copper washer.
^ If gas flow continues for more than 10 seconds, retighten fitting and call GFI Customer Service Hotline at 1-800-667-4275 for additional assistance.
10. Remove compuvalve inlet line from regulator outlet port. Discard line and copper washers. To gain clearance to the in let line, it may be necessary to dismount regulator from underbody of vehicle.
11. Disconnect outlet line from quarter turn valve. Refer to Figure 9.
12. Install 3/8-inch adapter (from GFI vent kit N1-185) to open port of quarter turn valve.
13. Install vent hose (from GFI vent kit) to 3/8-inch adapter. Refer to Figure 9. Tighten elbow of vent hose until a sharp increase in torque is felt.
14. Secure other end of vent hose to underbody of vehicle. See Figure 9.
15. Lower vehicle.
16. Move vehicle to approved CNG vent stack or venting station.
17. Attach vent tool to vent hose from Rotunda CNG vent kit 134-00114. Refer to Figure 10.
18. Connect vent tool (from Rotunda kit) to vent hose (from GFI kit). See Figure 10.
19. Attach vent hose (from Rotunda kit) to venting station.
20. Firmly secure grounding strap (from Rotunda Vent kit 134-00114) on hardline fitting (elbow where the fuel lines meet) or on the tank valve.
21. Attach other end of grounding strap to a secure grounding point such as the metal support tube or metal guard posts around the venting station.Connection must make good electrical contact.
22. Open the quarter turn valve.
23. Open the valve on the Rotunda Venting Tool and/or venting station.
24. When tank is empty shut off venting station valve and/or venting station and quarter turn valve.
25. Unclamp end of ribbed hose from fuel tank inlet line. Slide ribbed hose away from inlet line fitting. Refer to Figure 11.
26. Disconnect fuel tank inlet line from tank valve. See Figure 11.
27. Unclamp end of ribbed hose from fuel tank outlet line. Slide ribbed hose away from outlet line fitting. Refer to Figure 12.
28. Disconnect fuel tank outlet line from tank valve. See Figure 12.If there is any residual pressure in the fuel tank, let gas completely vent to atmosphere before continuing with procedure.
29. Disconnect Rotunda vent hose from venting station and vehicle.
30. Disconnect vent tool from vent hose.
31. Disconnect grounding strap from vehicle and grounding point.
32. Move vehicle back to service area.
33. Raise and support vehicle.
34. Remove GFI vent hose from adapter.
35. Remove adapter from quarter turn valve port.
36. Reconnect fuel line to quarter turn valve. Tighten fitting until a sharp increase in torque is felt.
37. Lower vehicle.
