Pinpoint Test C - Instrument Cluster Illumination Inoperative

C1 - Check Dimmer Switch Operation

- Turn headlamp switch to parking lamp position.
- Actuate panel dimmer switch to maximum without turning on dome lamps.

Are all instrument cluster illumination bulbs off (conventional cluster)?

YES TURN headlamp off. GO to C5.
NO TURN headlamp off. GO to C2.

C2 - Check Left Turn Signal Indicator

- Turn headlamp switch ON.
- Turn on left turn signal.

Does left turn indicator flash?

YES GO to C4.
NO GO to C3.

C3 - Check Ground Circuit

- Turn headlamp switch to off position.
- Remove instrument cluster.
- Check continuity between pin C1-8, circuit 676 (PK/O) Town Car, pin C1-2, circuit 57 (BK) Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis of instrument cluster connector J2 and ground.

Is there continuity?

YES REPLACE printed circuit. RESTORE system. RETEST system.
NO SERVICE open in pin C1-8, circuit 676 (PK/O) Town Car, pin C1-2, circuit 57 (BK), Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis. RESTORE system. RETEST system.

C4 - Check Illumination Bulbs

- Remove illumination bulbs from instrument cluster.
- Check continuity of bulbs.

Do all bulbs have continuity?

YES REPLACE printed circuit. RESTORE system. RETEST system.
NO REPLACE burned out bulbs. RESTORE system. RETEST system.

C5 - Check Instrument Cluster Illumination Circuit 19 (LB/R)

- Remove instrument cluster.
- Pull headlamp switch to parking lamp position.
- Measure voltage at pin 29, Town Car, 15 Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis of instrument cluster connector to ground J2.

Is B+ present?

YES GO to D1.
NO SERVICE open in circuit 19 (LB/R). RESTORE system. RETEST system.
