Driver Side Seat Cushion - Sags/Uncomfortable
Article No.97-2-2
1/20/97
SEAT - FRONT - DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT CUSHION PAD AND SUPPORT SPRING MAY SAG AND/OR SEAT MAY BECOME UNCOMFORTABLE - FLEET USAGE
FORD:
1995-97 CROWN VICTORIA
ISSUE:
The driver's seat cushion pad and support spring may sag and not provide enough support which may result in a driver comfort concern. This may be due to the "Flex-o-lator" rear springs elongating and/or the support spring may have moved into the cushion pad. This will be most evident on fleet vehicles where the seat will be occupied for long periods of time, not allowing the seat time to recover.
ACTION:
Replace the cushion pad support "Flex-o-lator" rear springs and add mesh between the "Flex-o-lator" and cushion pad. The revised spring has a higher tension rate to support the seat cushion. The mesh should reduce the possibility of the springs intruding into the cushion pad. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the complete front seat and track assembly from the vehicle following the procedure outlined in the appropriate year Crown Victoria Service Manual, Section 01-10.
2. Remove the seat cushion trim and pad following the procedure outlined in the appropriate year 1995 Crown Victoria Service Manual, Section 01-10.
NOTE:
FOR 1995 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES, CONTINUE WITH STEP 3. 1996-97 MODEL YEAR VEHICLE SEATS HAVE THE HIGHER RATE SPRING AND POLYETHYLENE MESH. FOR 1996-97 VEHICLES, PROCEED TO STEP 5.
3. Remove and replace the two (2) rear springs that support the "Flex-o-lator" with revised springs (blue in color). Refer to Figure 1.
4. Position the mesh on top of the "Flex-o-lator" grid so that it will be positioned between the foam cushion pad and "Flex-o-lator" wires.
5. Install the new foam pad and discard the old pad.
6. Install the seat cushion trim and reinstall the seat back to the seat cushion following the procedure outlined in Section 01-10 of the appropriate year Crown Victoria Service Manual.
7. Install the seat assembly into the vehicle. Be sure to torque the seat track-to-floor bolts to the specification listed in the appropriate year Crown Victoria Service Manual, Section 01-10.
