LEAKS WATER - DURING HEAVY RAIN AND/OR
WHEN GOING THROUGH CAR WASH -
CONVERTIBLE TOP VEHICLES ONLY

FORD:
1994-97 MUSTANG

ISSUE:
Water may leak into the passenger compartment between the roof side rails and the convertible top material on some vehicles. This may occur during heavy rains and/or when going through a car wash.

ACTION:
Install a foam water barrier between the convertible top and the top side rails to reduce the possibility of water entering the passenger compartment. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Raise the convertible top enough to gain access to the convertible top side rails (Figure 1).

2. Remove the existing foam seals from between the side rail and the convertible top material. Do not remove the door glass weatherstrips.

3. The foam seals are self-adhesive so be sure the side rail surface is clean and dry.





4. Install the shortest seal to the rear side rail section by removing the adhesive backing and starting from the front of the rear side rail, leave a 3 mm (0.125") overhang at the front of the rear side rail section. Refer to Figure 2.

5. Apply the longest seal to the middle section by removing the adhesive backing and installing the seal, leaving a 3 mm (0.125") overhang at the front of the center rail. Refer to Figure 2.

6. Install the remaining seal to the front side rail leaving a 3 mm (0.125") overhang at the rear of the front side rail. Refer to Figure 2.

7. Repeat this procedure for the opposite side.
