Removal and Installation

1. Mark hood bolt locations, then remove hood.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove engine compartment braces.
3. Remove air cleaner outlet, then recover A/C refrigerant. Cap all A/C fittings.
4. Drain cooling system into a suitable container, then remove coolant recovery reservoir.
5. Remove cooling fan motor and shroud.
6. Disconnect upper radiator hose at water bypass tube.
7. Relieve fuel pressure, then disconnect fuel lines from fuel supply manifold.
8. Disconnect 42 pin connector and other engine wiring from firewall. Disconnect accelerator cable and speed control cable from engine.
9. Disconnect canister purge and chassis vacuum hoses from engine.
10. Disconnect alternator wiring from alternator, then engine wiring connectors at power distribution box.
11. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission cooler lines.
12. Remove power steering return hose and pressure hose from pump and drain into a suitable container.
13. Disconnect return line hose from power steering reservoir, then remove reservoir.
14. Connect a suitable lifting eye to rear of RH cylinder head.
15. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect A/C lines from compressor. Cap all A/C lines and fittings.
16. Drain engine oil into a suitable container.
17. Remove dual converter Y pipe, then remove lower radiator hose from vehicle.
18. Remove starter.
19. Remove transmission.
20. Disconnect heater hoses from tubes at rear of right cylinder head.
21. Remove nuts from right and left engine support through bolts.
22. Lower vehicle.
23. Connect a suitable lifting eye to front of left cylinder head, then connect suitable lifting equipment to lifting eyes.
24. Remove engine from vehicle.
25. Mount engine to a suitable work stand.
26. Reverse procedure to install.
