Removal and Installation

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.

2. Remove the passenger side air bag module.

WARNING: WHEN CARRYING A LIVE AIR BAG, MAKE SURE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER ARE POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT, THE BAG WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.

IN ADDITION, WHEN PLACING A LIVE AIR BAG ON A BENCH OR OTHER SURFACE, ALWAYS FACE THE BAG AND TRIM COVER UP, AWAY FROM THE SURFACE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE MOTION OF THE MODULE IF IT IS ACCIDENTALLY DEPLOYED.


3. Loosen the hood latch control handle and cable nut and remove the hood latch control handle and cable from the instrument panel lower side panel.
4. Remove the instrument panel lower side panel screw. Remove the LH foot interior lamp socket from the instrument panel lower side panel. Remove the instrument panel lower side panel.







5. Remove the four lower steering column shroud screws.
6. Separate the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
7. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder illumination miniature bulb socket from the lower steering column shroud. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.






8. Remove the two upper steering column bolts and lower the steering column.
9. Remove the instrument cluster.
10. Move the wiring harness for the rear fog lamp relay and indicator flasher aside.
11. Open the glove compartment door.
12. Push in on the sides of the glove compartment to release the stoppers.
13. Remove the two glove compartment hinge screws.
14. Remove the glove compartment.
15. Remove the two instrument panel insulator clips. Remove the RH foot interior lamp miniature bulb socket from the instrument panel insulator. Remove the instrument panel insulator.
16. Remove the console panel.
17. Remove the radio chassis.
18. Remove the climate control assembly.
19. Carefully pry out to remove the two instrument panel end panels.





20. Remove the four instrument panel end panel bolts.
21. Remove the upper instrument panel bolt.





22. Remove the four lower instrument panel bolts.
23. Pull off and remove the RH and LH roof side inner front mouldings from the front body pillars.
24. Tip the instrument panel and disconnect the necessary electrical connectors.
25. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

Installation
1. Position the instrument panel in the vehicle.
2. Connect the necessary electrical connectors.
3. Install the RH and LH roof side inner front mouldings on the front body pillars.





4. Install and tighten the four lower instrument panel bolts to 19-25 Nm (14-19 lb-ft).
5. Install and tighten the upper instrument panel bolt to 8-11 Nm (6-8 lb-ft).





6. Install and tighten the four instrument panel end panel bolts to 8-11 Nm (6-8 lb-ft).
7. Install the instrument panel end panels.
8. Install the climate control assembly.
9. Install the radio.
10. Install the console panel.
11. Position the instrument panel insulator and install the RH foot interior lamp miniature bulb socket.
12. Install the instrument panel insulator with the two instrument panel insulator clips.
13. Position the glove compartment and install the two glove compartment hinge screws.
14. Push in the sides of the glove compartment and tilt the glove compartment into place.
15. Close the glove compartment door.
16. Install the instrument cluster.





17. Position the steering column and install the two upper steering column bolts. Tighten the upper steering column bolts to 16-23 Nm (12-17 lb-ft).
18. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder illumination miniature bulb socket in the steering column shroud.





19. Position the upper and lower steering column shrouds and install the lower steering column shroud screws.
20. Position the instrument panel lower side panel and install the LH foot interior lamp socket.
21. Install the instrument panel lower side panel and the instrument panel lower side panel screw.
22. Install the hood latch control handle and cable.
23. Install the passenger side air bag module.
24. Connect the battery ground cable.
