Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.

NOTE: When removing exhaust components from the vehicle, it may be necessary to use an oxygen/acetylene torch to heat the nuts, due to the build up of oxidation.

2. Remove the two exhaust inlet pipe-to-three way catalytic converter nuts and discard them. Separate the inlet pipe and the convertor.
3. Remove the gasket and discard it.

4. Remove and discard the two three way catalytic converter-to-muffler inlet pipe and resonator nuts. Separate the convertor and the inlet pipe
5. Remove the exhaust converter outlet gasket and discard it.
6. Remove the three way catalytic converter.

INSTALLATION
1. Inspect the convertor for deterioration and restriction. Replace it if necessary.
2. Place the convertor into its mounting position, using a new gasket.
3. Install new nuts and tighten to 64-89 Nm (47-66 lb ft).
4. Install a new gasket between the convertor and the exhaust inlet pipe.
5. Install new nuts and tighten to 64-89 Nm (47-66 lb ft).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks.
