Timing Belt: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Remove the engine front cover.
2. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt.
3. Turn the crankshaft until the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket lines up with the timing mark on the oil pump and the camshaft sprocket timing marks (E and 1) line up on the camshaft sprockets.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Insert Camshaft Pulley Holding Tool T92C-6256-AH.
6. Use an Allen wrench to turn the timing belt tensioner and remove the timing belt tensioner spring from the timing belt tensioner spring.
7. Remove the timing belt.
NOTE: If the timing belt is to be reused, mark the direction of rotation on the timing belt.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the timing belt.
NOTE: Ensure the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets are still aligned and the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket is still aligned with the timing mark on the oil pump. If the original timing belt is being used, install the timing belt with the direction of rotation mark facing the same way as before timing belt removal.
2. While turning the timing belt tensioner clockwise with an Allen wrench, install the timing belt tensioner spring.
3. Remove Camshaft Pulley Holding Tool T92C-6256-AH.
4. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise two turns in the direction of normal rotation, and align the timing marks. Ensure all marks are still correctly aligned.
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
7. Install the engine front covers.
