EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection
1. Clean dirt or other deposits from the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve.2. Start the engine and run it at idle.
MTX (M/T) With Federal or Canada Emissions
CD4E (A/T) (all) or California MTX
3. Connect a Rotunda(r) Vacuum Tester 014-R1058, or equivalent, as shown and apply vacuum.
4. If the vehicle is equipped with CD4E or is a California MTX model, verify that the engine runs roughly or stalls at 40-60 mm-Hg (1.6-2.3 in-Hg).
5. If the vehicle is equipped with MTX with Federal or Canada emissions, verify that the engine runs roughly or stalls at more than 150 mm-Hg (5.91 in-Hg).
6. If results are not as specified, replace the EGR valve.
