Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Run the engine at idle, in PARK (P) on CD4E (A/T) vehicles, or NEUTRAL on MTX (M/T) vehicles. Warm up the engine to the normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads OFF.
3. Connect Rotunda(r) 88 Digital Multimeter 105-R0053 or equivalent, to the engine using the instructions included with the multimeter.
4. Connect a timing light to the engine.

5. Remove the shorting bar from the double wire SPOUT connector.
6. Check the idle speed. If necessary, adjust it to 650-750 (700 +/- 50) rpm.

Timing Marks:





7. Check to be sure the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley and the mark on the timing indicator are aligned.

- Ignition timing: 9°-11° (10° +/- 1°) Before Top Dead Center (BTDC).

8. If the marks are not aligned, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt and turn the distributor housing to make the adjustment.

9. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt to 19-25 Nm (14-18 lb ft).
10. Install the shorting bar to the double wire SPOUT connector.
