Input Shaft: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLE
1. Using hydraulic press and bearing pulling attachment tool No. D84L-1123-A, or equivalent, remove fourth gear end bearing.

2. Remove fourth gear from input shaft, then the speedometer dial.
3. Remove snap ring, then slide 3-4 clutch hub assembly from input shaft.
4. Use hydraulic press and bearing pulling attachment tool No. D84L-1123-A, or equivalent, remove third gear from input shaft.
5. Remove input shaft end bearing using bearing pulling attachment tool No. D84L-1123-A and shaft protector tool No. D80L-725-4, or equivalents.

ASSEMBLE
1. Install new input shaft end bearing using hydraulic press, shaft protector tool No. D80L-625-4 and bearing pulling attachment tool No. D84L-1123-A, or equivalents.
2. Install third gear using hydraulic press and bearing pulling attachment, then slide third gear synchronizer ring onto input shaft. Ensure toothed side of third gear synchronizer ring is facing away from clutch hub assembly.
3. Slide 3-4 clutch hub assembly onto input shaft, then snap retaining snap ring into place.

NOTE: Ensure 3-4 clutch hub assembly is properly installed on input shaft. Ensure snap ring is fully seated in input shaft groove.

4. Install fourth gear synchronizer ring, then the fourth gear and new end bearing with hydraulic press, shaft protector tool No. D80L-625-4 and axle bearing/seal plate tool No. T75L-1165-B, or equivalents.
5. Measure clearance between third and second gears. If clearance is not 0.007-0.010 inch, reassemble input shaft.
6. Measure clearance between fourth gear and bearing. If clearance is not 0.015-0.O17 inch, reassemble input shaft assembly.
