ProcedureSteel Push Connect Tube Ends
1. Relieve fuel system pressure: Service and Repair
Read cautionary note prior to relieving pressurized fuel system. If necessary, drain fuel tank: Service and Repair
NOTE: Allow for adequate room to tighten a union with a wrench at this location.
2. Using a tube cutter, remove the damaged push connect tube end at a convenient distance from the end.
3. Choose a proper replacement push connect tube end.
4. Select the proper size union and attach the new steel tube end to the original tube.
5. Clean off the steel tube end and replace the push connector onto the tube. (A new retainer clip is recommended.)
6. Check that the underbody clips are properly securing the fuel tubes.
7. Fill fuel tank, start engine and check for leaks.
Nylon Push Connectors
NOTE: Damaged push connectors must be discarded and replaced with new push connectors. If only retaining clip is damaged, replace clip.
1. Relieve fuel system pressure: Service and Repair Read cautionary note prior to relieving pressurized fuel system. If necessary, drain fuel tank.
2. Disconnect damaged push connector. Be sure to break the tab before removing retaining clip.
3. Select proper size replacement push connector and nylon tube assembly.
4. Cut out a section of original nylon tube to same length as nylon tube attached to new push connector.
Fuel Line Service Parts:
5. Install proper barbed connector into replacement nylon assembly.
NOTE: To make hand insertion of barbed connectors into nylon easier, tube end must be soaked in a cup of boiling water for one minute immediately before pushing barbs into nylon.
6. Install two keystone clamps onto original nylon tubing before beginning next step.
7. Complete splice by connecting barbed connector to original nylon.
8. Tighten clamps in locations shown in illustration after Step 11 of Splicing Nylon-to-Nylon.
9. Connect new connector assembly to steel tube end.
10. Check that underbody clips are properly securing fuel tubes.
11. Fill fuel tank , start engine and check for fuel leaks.
