Charge Lamp Flickers, Intermittent

1. Clean and service following connections for corrosion, loose or bent pins, or loose eyelets:
a. Three-pin voltage regulator connector.
b. One-pin "S" connector.
c. Generator "B+" eyelet.
d. Power distribution box eyelets.
e. Battery cables.
2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and measure voltage at voltage regulator test point "F." If voltage is equal to battery voltage, proceed to step 3. If voltage is less than battery voltage, proceed as follows:
a. Remove alternator and inspect brush holder screws on voltage regulator test points "A" and "F." Torque to 25-35 in lb.
b. If screws were tight, remove voltage regulator and measure resistance from each slip ring to housing.
c. If resistance is more than 200 ohms, replace voltage regulator.
d. If resistance is less than 200 ohms, clean and recheck resistance.
e. If still less than 200 ohms, replace alternator.
3. Start engine and inspect power distribution box alternator fuse by wiggling fuse. If lamp does not flicker, proceed to step 4. If lamp flickers, service loose fuse connection.
4. With engine running, connect voltage regulator test point "A" to positive battery post with jump wire. If lamp does not flicker, service poor connection in circuit between alternator "A" and power distribution box. If indicator lamp flickers, replace voltage regulator, if lamp still flickers, replace alternator.
