ISSUE:
A "growl" noise may be heard on some vehicles when turning the steering wheel. This noise may be misdiagnosed as a clockspring and/or power steering pump noise. The noise may be caused by the dust boot or cover on the input shaft of the steering gear vibrating against the steering gear.

ACTION:
Apply white lithium grease to the lip of the dust boot or cover and the steering gear housing. The lubricant should prevent the dust boot or cover from vibrating against the steering gear causing the noise.
