a. Position replacement bushing on bushing installer tool No. T61L-7657-A or equivalent and install through front of case.
b. Thread impact slide hammer into bushing installer through back of case. Completely install bushing.
2. With transmission in vertical position, install No. 9 needle bearing on transmission case boss. Coat bearing with petroleum jelly.
3. Install output shaft, ring gear, and direct clutch as an assembly.
4. Install output shaft retaining snap ring.
5. Install low/reverse band. Ensure band is seated on anchor pins.
6. Install planetary assembly and center support as a unit. Align notch in center support with overdrive band anchor pin. Planet carrier and center support assembly cannot be installed unless notch cut in center support is aligned with overdrive band anchor pin.
7. Rotate output shaft, if necessary, to align planet carrier splines with direct clutch hub splines.
8. Install center support anti-clunk spring using a screwdriver to position spring.
9. Install center support retaining ring. Reference snap ring end tab to anchor pin location.
10. Install forward sun gear, No. 5 needle bearing, drive shell, and No. 4 needle bearing.
11. Install intermediate stub shaft, then the forward clutch hub, and No. 3 needle bearing.
12. Install forward clutch assembly, then the reverse clutch cylinder assembly. Wiggle turbine shaft while engaging reverse clutch splines. Ensure reverse clutch cylinder lugs are completely seated in notches of reverse sun gear and drive shell.
13. Install overdrive band over reverse clutch assembly and position pocket of band against anchor pin.
14. Install overdrive servo return spring and overdrive servo piston assembly. Verify tip of piston assembly engages pocket of overdrive band.
15. Install piston assembly into case, then using suitable tool compress return spring.
16. Ensure band anchor and tip of piston assembly are properly positioned against band pockets. Install snap ring and remove tool.
17. Install intermediate clutch pack components; pressure plate, clutch pack, and selective steel plate in that order.

Measuring Intermediate Clutch Clearance:

18. Measure intermediate clutch clearance, then rotate 180° and measure again to obtain average depth at intermediate clutch separator plate. Maintain downward pressure on clutch pack while measuring clearance.
19. If average depth is not 1.634-1.646 inches, install correct separator plate and recheck clearance. Selective steel separator plates are available in inch thicknesses of 0.067-0.071 inch, 0.077-0.081 inch, 0.087-0.091 inch and 0.097-0.101 inch.

Measuring Depth At Reverse Clutch Drum Thrust Face:

20. Measure depth at reverse clutch drum thrust face, then measure again 180° opposite to obtain average measurement.

Selective Thrust Washer Application Chart:

NOTE: Determine selective thrust washer required from the Selective Thrust Washer Application Chart.

21. Install thrust washer selected in step 20 on pump, retaining with petroleum jelly.
22. Install new pump gasket.

Pump Alignment Dowel Location:

23. Install pump alignment dowel fabricated by removing head from M8 X 1.25 bolt. Install in the 12 o'clock position, using petroleum jelly on pump to case seal surfaces.
24. Using suitable tools, lower pump assembly into case, ensuring alignment dowel is properly positioned.
25. Remove alignment dowel and install pump attaching bolts, torquing alternately a few turns at a time.

NOTE: Clean attaching bolts with wire brush and apply suitable locking compound on threads.

26. Place transmission in horizontal position, then install output shaft speed sensor.
27. Install manual lever seal using shift lever seal replacer tool No. T74P-77498-A or equivalent.
28. Install Electronic Pressure Control (EPC), then the park pawl, and return spring. Slide shaft into case through pawl.
29. Install extension housing and new gasket. Tighten extension housing bolts.
30. Install extension housing output shaft seal.
31. Position detent and park rod assembly into case. Park rod must be positioned over pawl.
32. slide manual lever into case and position through detent. Torque nut.
33. Install tapered roll pin, then filter into case (head first).
34. Install reverse band spring, piston, and rod assembly, cover and snap ring. Tighten screw on servo piston replacer tool No. T92P-70023-A or equivalent, to allow enough clearance to install snap ring.
35. Install new piston 0-ring seals on 2-3 accumulator and 1-2 accumulator.

Exploded View Of 2-3 Accumulator:

36. Install 2-3 accumulator.

Exploded View Of 1-2 Accumulator:

37. Install 1-2 accumulator.
38. Align and install wire harness into case. Inspect 0-ring.

NOTE: Replacement is required. Tab on connector is secured by main control.

Main Control Body Check Ball Locations:

39. Position main control valve body using two alignment bolts as a guide. Ensure main control check balls are in correct locations.
40. Install EPC solenoid bracket. Loosely install one long 6 mm bolt.
41. Loosely install 11 long 6 mm bolts and 12 short.
42. Install detent spring and roller, then one short 8 mm bolt.
43. Tighten main control bolts.
44. Connect wiring harness, then install new filter and grommet.
45. Install manual lever position sensor on manual lever, then loosely install bolts.
46. Position manual lever in Neutral.

NOTE: Park is last detent when manual lever is full forward. Return two detents toward output shaft for Neutral.

47. Install manual lever position sensor adjustment tool. Insert gear position sensor adjuster tool No. T71P-70010-A or equivalent into slots. Align all three slots on manual lever position sensor with three tabs on tool.
48. Tighten manual lever position sensor.
49. Install new pan gasket, then the oil pan. Tighten bolts.
