Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints: Application and ID

Identification Tag:
REAR AXLE TAG
The plant code shown on the axle identification tag is used to identify the axle assembly. The plant code will not change as long as that particular axle assembly never undergoes an external design change. If an internal design change is made to an axle during its production life and that internal change affects service parts interchangeability, a dash and numerical suffix will be added to the plant code. Information on axle ratio, differential type and ring gear diameter may also be found on this tag.
VEHICLE CERTIFICATION LABEL
Information on axle ratio and differential type may be found on the vehicle certification label, which is affixed to the lefthand front door lock panel or door pillar. A code found in the "AX" box on the label will identify the originally installed axle.
