Toe

NOTE:
^ Perform the steering angle check before toe measurement (if any steering angle corrections have been made).
^ When making a toe adjustment, turn the front wheel spindle tie rods by equal amounts in order to avoid changing the steering wheel centering. If the steering wheel is off-center after making a toe adjustment, center the steering wheel.

1. Raise the front tires and rotate them through one revolution while marking a chalk line at the center of the tire tread. Verify that the line is centered all the way around the tire, to rule out the possibility of wheel or tire runout.
2. Lower the vehicle and bounce the front end to normalize wheel position.
3. Measure the distance between right and left tread center lines at front wheel knuckle height at the front and rear of the tires. Subtract the front measurement from the rear to determine the toe-in. If the front measurement is greater than the rear, a toe-out condition exists which must be corrected.
4. If toe is not within specification limits, prepare for adjustment as follows:
a. Place alignment marks on the front wheel spindle tie rods, tie rod end, and front wheel spindle tie rod or tie rod end jam nuts.
b. Release the bellows clamps.
c. Be sure the bellows are free on the front wheel spindle tie rods to prevent twisting them.
d. Loosen the front wheel spindle tie rod or tie rod end jam nuts.
5. Adjust toe by turning both front wheel spindle tie rods into or out of the tie rod end to decrease or increase toe-in, respectively. Adjust by equal amounts right and left to avoid changing the steering wheel centering.
6. If the steering angle and wheel centering adjustments resulted in unequal steering angles, the toe adjustments should be made to reduce, rather than increase, the difference.
