Functional Check

DESCRIPTION
Check operation of the power steering pressure switch (PSP) if either or both of the following conditions are noted:
^ Engine stalls during parking maneuvers.
^ Engine idles at high speed.

PROCEDURES
1. Disconnect the PSP switch electrical connector from the PSP switch.
2. Connect a continuity tester, Rotunda 73 Digital Multimeter 105-R0051 or equivalent, between the PSP switch terminal and ground.
3. Start the engine and let it idle.
4. The PSP switch should normally be open (infinite ohms) with the steering wheel straight ahead.
5. Turn the steering wheel toward either stop while watching the continuity tester. The PSP switch should close near the stops (zero ohms).
6. If the PSP switch fails either test, replace the PSP switch. If the PSP switch is OK, check engine idle speed.
