Rear
NOTE: The thrust line is the path both rear wheels take as they roll down the road.
DESCRIPTION
If rear toe and tracking are not set correctly, accelerated tire wear may occur. The thrust line of the rear wheels may also be affected. Ideally the thrust line should align perfectly with the center line of the vehicle. If the thrust line is not correct, the vehicle will slightly understeer in one direction and oversteer in the other direction. It will also affect wheel centering. This is why both front and rear alignment angles should be checked at the same time.
CONDITIONS FOR INSPECTION
Check rear toe whenever a front wheel alignment is required. Rear toe should be adjusted prior to setting the front alignment angles. Check rear toe by making measurements with four wheel alignment gauges. Check these measurements against factory specifications.
TRACKING
Adjust the rear tracking by setting the steering wheel straight ahead and using the front wheels as a reference point for the rear wheels. After setting the rear tracking, always double check the rear toe settings before tightening the cam nut to 78-117 Nm (58-86 ft. lbs.).
ADJUSTING
Check toe against specifications. If necessary, adjust toe as follows:
1. Loosen the cam nut on the rear floor cross member.
NOTE: Turning the adjusting cam bolt one graduation changes the toe about 3.2mm (0.13 inch).
2. Turn the adjusting cam bolt as indicated in the following chart to adjust the toe to the correct specifications.
3. Tighten the cam nut to 78-117 Nm (58-86 ft. lbs.).
