Steering Angle

DESCRIPTION
Inspect the steering angle (turning angle to left and right). The steering angle is measured by placing the front wheels on a turning-radius gauge and fully turning the wheels to the left or right. Check the steering angle against specifications.

PROCEDURES
If necessary adjust the steering angle as follows:
1. Loosen the tie rod end jam nuts at the tie rod ends and release the small ends of the front suspension steering bail stud dust seals.

NOTE: Be sure the front suspension steering ball stud dust seals are free on the front wheel spindle tie rods so they will not be twisted when the front wheel spindle tie rods are turned.

2. Turn the front wheel spindle tie rods into or out of the tie rod ends an equal amount on each side to provide the correct maximum steering angle.
3. When the steering angle is correct, tighten the tie rod end jam nuts to 69-98 Nm (51-72 ft. lbs.). Verify that the front suspension steering ball stud dust seal ends are positioned correctly on the appropriate sections of the front wheel spindle tie rod and install the front suspension steering ball stud dust seals.
4. Inspect and adjust the toe after adjusting the steering angle.
