Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair

Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill





1. Raise and support the vehicle.

2. WARNING: When releasing the transaxle cooling system fluid pressure, cover the fluid hose with a thick cloth to prevent the possibility of scalding. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

CAUTION: Whenever the fluid cooler hoses are disconnected from the fluid cooler the outlet and inlet ports must be plugged to prevent the ingress of foreign material.

Disconnect the return hose from the transmission fluid cooler.
^ Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
3. Attach a length of suitable drain hose to the transmission fluid cooler return hose.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Insert the drain hose into a calibrated 10 liter container.

6. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle do not run the engine above idle.

NOTE: If the fluid return rate is less than 0.95 liters in 30 seconds, or if the return hose pulsates, CHECK for restrictions at the pump, cooler or cooler lines.

Run the engine at idle and pump out 3 liters of automatic transmission fluid.
7. Switch OFF the engine.





8. Remove the fluid level indicator from the fluid level indicator tube.





9. Using a suitable syringe add 3 liters of automatic transmission fluid to the transaxle.

10. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle do not run the engine above idle.

NOTE: If the fluid return rate is less than 0.95 liters in 30 seconds, or if the return hose pulsates, CHECK for restrictions at the pump, cooler or cooler lines. Run the engine at idle and pump out 3 liters of automatic transmission fluid.

11. Switch OFF the engine.
12. Raise and support the vehicle.
13. Detach the length of suitable drain hose from the transmission fluid return hose.

14. NOTE: Remove the plug from the transmission fluid cooler return port.
Connect the return hose to the transmission fluid cooler.





15. Lower the vehicle.





16. Using a suitable syringe add 3 liters of automatic transmission fluid to the transaxle.





17. Install the fluid level indicator to the fluid level indicator tube.

18. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle do not run the engine above idle. Run the engine.

19. Switch OFF the engine.
20. CHECK the automatic transmission fluid level and fill if necessary.
