Disassembly





1. Install the special tool.





2. Remove the selector mechanism.
- Select neutral.
- Remove the bolts.





3. Using the special tool, remove the halfshaft oil seals.





4. Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).





5. NOTE: Do not remove guide pegs.

Remove the transaxle flange bolts.





6. CAUTION: Take care not to damage the transaxle housing.

Separate the transaxle housing.
1. Place supports underneath.
2. Separate the transaxle housing using two tire bars.





7. Remove the differential. Remove the magnetic disc.





8. Remove the selector rods and the first and second gear selector fork.





9. Remove the selector forks.
1. Move the fifth and reverse gear selector fork to the side.
2. Rotate the third and fourth gear selector fork and remove. Remove the fifth and reverse gear selector fork.





10. Remove the reverse idler gear.
1. Remove the snap-ring.
2. Tilt the input and output shafts to the side.
- Lift out the idler gear. Discard the snap-ring.





11. Remove the input and the output shaft. Lift out the input and the output shaft from transaxle housing together. Remove the bearing, reverse idler gear, needle roller bearing and thrust washers.





12. Using the special tools, remove the differential bearing outer race.





13. Using the special tools, remove the bearing outer races from the input and output shaft.





14. NOTE: Discard clutch slave cylinder.

Remove the clutch the slave cylinder.





15. Using the special tools, remove the bearing outer races and shims from the differential and input shaft.





16. Using the special tools, remove the output shaft bearing outer race and shim.





17. NOTE: Only remove the reverse gear idler shaft if there is evidence of damage or leaks.

Remove the reverse gear idler shaft cover.





18. NOTE: Only remove the reverse gear idler shaft if there is evidence of damage or leaks.

Using a wooden drift, remove the reverse gear idler shaft.
