HEATER CORE AND EVAPORATOR CORE HOUSING
Removal and Installation
NOTE: Installation of a new suction accumulator is not required when repairing the air conditioning system, except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator. Accumulator HVAC
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Vehicle Lifting
2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant
3. Drain the engine cooling system. Service and Repair
4. Release the clamps and disconnect the heater hoses at the heater core.
5. Remove the instrument panel. Dashboard / Instrument Panel
6. Disconnect the evaporator core inlet and outlet fittings.
- Discard the O-ring seals.
7. Open the caps and remove the RH and LH in-vehicle crossbeam retaining bolts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
8. Remove the RH air distribution ducts.
9. Remove the 3 RH in-vehicle crossbeam bolts.
- Detach the wire harness from the in-vehicle crossbeam.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
10. Remove the LH air ducts.
11. Detach the central junction box (CJB) from the in-vehicle crossbeam.
12. Remove the 3 LH in-vehicle crossbeam bolts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
13. Remove the center instrument panel duct.
14. Detach the wire harness from the in-vehicle crossbeam.
15. NOTE: RH in-vehicle crossbeam bracket shown, LH similar.
Remove the LH and RH in-vehicle crossbeam brackets.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
16. Remove the rear footwell ducts (if equipped).
17. Position the in-vehicle crossbeam aside.
18. Detach the wire harness from the heater core and evaporator core housing.
19. Remove the RH inner heater core and evaporator core housing nut.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
20. Remove the LH inner heater core and evaporator core housing nut.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
21. Remove the outer heater core and evaporator core housing nuts.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
22. Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing.
23. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install new O-ring seals.
- Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil.

25. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. Refrigerant
