A/T - 700R4 Bind Up On 3-4 Gear Shift
TSB 86-37 (July)SUBJECT: 700 R4
BIND UP ON 3-4 SHIFT, L4 & V6 ENGINE
COMPLAINT:
Transmission works good in reverse, first, second and third gears. Bind-up is experienced as unit shifts into fourth gear (overdrive).
CAUSE:
Not enough clearance in overrun clutch pack (improper stack-up) because of:
1. Too many plates in overrun clutch
2. Forward Pressure Plate turned over
3. A regular overrun steel disc installed between the top overrun lined disc and aluminum forward clutch spacer plate.
The top overrunning clutch steel disc in 4 and 6 cylinder models does not fit inside the fingers of the forward clutch piston. It is actually the forward clutch apply plate, (figure A).
If left out, it would cause the top overrun lined disc to apply against the aluminum spacer.
