Oil Pump Assembly
1. Remove pump to case seal ring and inspect groove for damage.
2. Remove pump to direct clutch thrust washer and inspect for damage or wear.
3. Inspect teflon oil ring seals for damage and free fit in grooves. Do not remove seals unless replacement is required.
4. Using a small screwdriver, push on bore plug to compress pressure regulator spring and remove snap ring.
5. Slowly release spring tension and remove valve train.
6. Inspect regulator valve for nicks or damage.
7. Inspect spring and guide for damage or distortion.
8. Inspect regulator valve for freedom of operation in bore.
9. Remove pump cover to body retaining bolts and separate pump cover from body. Do not drop check ball as pump cover is separated from body.
10. Remove the 0.281 inch (7.14 mm) check ball from pump body or cover. Make sure to keep it separated from the five 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) check balls from the valve body.
11. Inspect gears for scoring, galling or damage. Driven gear identification marks should have been against the pump body gear pocket The drive gear has one identification mark and should be facing away from pump body gear pocket.
12. Inspect drive and driven gear pocket and crescent for scoring or damage.
13. Inspect pump body face for nicks and overall flatness.
14. Inspect to make sure all oil passages are not obstructed.
15. Inspect for damaged bolt hole threads.
16. Inspect bushing for scores or nicks.
17. Grind 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) from end of No. 4 easy out, then, using modified easy out, remove and discard cup plug, see image.
18. Remove screen from pump body and clean in clean solvent and air dry, then install screen in pump body, see image.
19. Using a 5/16 in. (7.9 mm) diameter metal rod and hammer, drive cup plug just below hole surface, see image.
20. If removed, coat outside of seal body with non-hardening sealing compound, then install new pump body seal using tool J-25016.
21. Install driven pump gear with identification mark down against gear pocket of pump body.
22. Install drive gear with identification marks on drive tangs up.
23. Check body face to gear face clearance which should be 0.0007-0.0021 inch (0.020-0.055 mm), see image.
24. Install check ball into pump body and retain with petrolatum.
25. Inspect cover to make sure all oil passages are not obstructed.
26. Inspect cup plugs for damage or leaks. If a plug is missing, drive a new lug to 1/32 inch (0.79 mm below top of hole using a 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) diameter rod on the smaller plug and a 5/16 inch (7.92 mm) diameter rod on the larger plugs. Stake top of hole in two places directly opposite each other to retain plug.
27. Inspect pump cover face for nicks and overall flatness.
28. Inspect for chips in pressure regulator bore.
29. Inspect stator shaft for damaged splines or damaged bushings.
30. Inspect orifice plug. If plug requires replacement, place new plug with orifice end first into hole from rough casting side. Drive plug flush to 0.01 inch (0.25 mm) below top of hole on rough casting side. Stake top of hole at two locations to retain plug.
31. Assemble pump cover to pump body and finger tighten retaining bolts.
32. Using tool J-25015, align pump cover and pump body and torque bolts to 15-20 ft lbs. (20-27 Nm).
33. Install pressure regulator spring guide valve with stem end out and install bore plug with hole side out.
34. Using a small screwdriver, compress pressure regulator spring and install snap ring.
35. Install actuator valve into bushing bore of pump cover.
36. Install apply valve into apply valve bushing, then install bushing into bore of pump cover, see first image, and install apply valve bushin9 retainer pin, see second image. Install retainer pin clip and bolt, if applicable. Torque bolt to 15-20 ft. lbs.
37. Install new pump to case gasket on pump and retain with petrolatum. Then lubricate new O-ring with petrolatum and install on solenoid assembly, if equipped.
38. Install solenoid assembly onto pump, then install attaching bolts and torque to 2-4 ft. lbs. (3.5-5 Nm), see image.
39. Install solenoid assembly wires into wire clip.
40. If removed, install the three new oil seals, making sure cut ends are assembled in same relationship as cut. Also make sure rings are seated in grooves to avoid damage to rings during reassembly of mating part over rings. Retain with petrolatum.
41. Install pump to case seal ring with chamfered side out making sure ring is not twisted.
