A/T - 200/200C Soft Shift 1-2/Flare 3-2

SUBJECT: '79-'81 200 & 200C

PROBLEM:
Soft, or sliding 1-2 shift, and/or 3-2 flare This problem occurs most often on V-6 and small V-8 transmissions.

SOLUTION:




When servicing, routinely check the 1-2 accumulator spring between the valve body and case. (see figure) If the spring is of light tension, as in the early 1977 and and 1978 transmissions, replace it with a stronger one. A good replacement spring is GM part # 8630885.
