Truck Engine Production Code Explanation

Chevrolet produced engines, except 6.2L diesel will be stamped with a source, production date and engine suffix. Other General Motors produced engines used in Chevrolet vehicles will use a label affixed to the engine assembly.

NOTE: In addition, all 10-30 Series Trucks have a portion of the vehicle identification number stamped near the engine production code, usually near the right hand side of the cylinder case. This identification number consists of the division code, model year, assembly plant designation and vehicle build sequence number.

The truck engine codes are located as follows:


L4 2.0L 112 CID Rear Wheel Drive

The code is stamped on a horizontal machined surface on the block left side just rearward of the exhaust manifold.


L6

The code is stamped on a pad on the right side of cylinder case just rear of the distributor.

V8

305, 350 CID Engines - the code is stamped on the cylinder case pad immediately forward of the right hand cylinder head.


366, 427, 454 CID Engines - the code is stamped on a pad on the front top center of the cylinder case immediately forward of the inlet manifold.
