Tester J-24624 is required to test the module. If this tester is not available, and malfunction still exists after performing the following checks, replace module.
1. Remove distributor cap and coil assembly, as equipped.
2. Inspect cap, coil and rotor for arcing, carbon tracking and damage, and replace as needed.
3. On models with integral coil, proceed as follows:
a. Connect ohmmeter, Fig. 10, step 1. If reading is other than zero or very near to zero, the ignition coil must be replaced.
b. If no ohmmeter reading was observed in step 1, reconnect ohmmeter both ways, Fig. 10, step 2. If both ohmmeter readings are infinite on high scale, replace ignition coil.
4. On models with remote coil, proceed as follows:
a. Connect ohmmeter, Fig. 11, step 1. If reading is not infinite, replace coil.
b. Connect ohmmeter, Fig. 11, step 2. If reading is not zero or near zero, replace coil.
c. Connect ohmmeter, Fig. 11, step 3. If reading is infinite, replace coil.
5. Connect an external vacuum source to the vacuum advance unit. Replace vacuum unit if inoperative.
6. If vacuum unit is operating properly, connect ohmmeter, Fig. 12, step 1. If ohmmeter reading on middle scale is not infinite at all times, pickup coil must be replaced.
7. With ohmmeter connected, Fig. 12, step 2, reading should be 500 to 1500 ohms.
