1. Remove necessary access covers depending on vehicle being serviced.
2. Drain cooling system and remove air cleaner and air compressor.
3. Disconnect choke cable, accelerator pedal rod at bellcrank on manifold, and fuel and vacuum lines at carburetor.
4. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold flange, then remove manifolds and carburetor as an assembly.
5. Disconnect wire harness from temperature sending unit and coil, leaving harness clear of clips in rocker arm cover.
6. Disconnect radiator hose at water outlet housing and battery ground strap at cylinder head.
7. Remove spark plugs and ignition coil.
8. Remove rocker arm cover. Back off rocker arm nuts, pivot rocker arms to clear pushrods and remove pushrods.
9. Unfasten and remove cylinder head.
10. Reverse removal procedure to install and tighten head bolts to the specified torque and in the sequence shown in Fig. 14.
