Engine Overheating
1. Check coolant level in radiator.
2. Check condition of coolant for contamination, anti-freeze concentration and leakage of oil into coolant.
3. Check hoses and clamps for signs of leakage.
4. Check water pump and thermostat housing for leakage.
5. Check cylinder head gasket for leakage.
6. Check fan belt tension. Belt deflection should not exceed .4 inch.
7. Check fan clutch operation.
8. Check radiator cap operation.
9. Check thermostat operation. Thermostat opening temperature is approximately 192°F.
10. Check notched line on injection pump flange, and reset timing as necessary.
11. Check fuel spray pattern and ensure injector starting pressure is 1493 psi.
12. Check water pump impeller condition.
13. Check combustion chambers for excessive combustion deposits.
14. Replace or readjust setting of injection pump.
