Removal

Fig. 7 Front Propeller Shaft:

1. Raise vehicle and place jack stands under frame side rails.
2. Remove tube and shaft assembly as described under TUBE & SHAFT ASSEMBLY.
3. Remove steering stabilizer to frame attaching bolt.
4. Mark position of steering idler arm for reference during installation, then remove idler arm-to-frame attaching bolts.
5. Push steering linkage towards front of vehicle, then remove axle vent hose from carrier fitting.
6. Disconnect lefthand drive axle shaft from carrier. When removing bolts, insert a drift through opening in top of brake caliper and into corresponding vane of brake rotor to prevent axle from turning.
7. Disconnect front propeller shaft, Fig. 7.
8. Remove carrier-to-frame attaching bolts, then the carrier.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Torque carrier attaching bolts to 65 ft. lbs. and nuts to 55 ft. lbs.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove left or right wheel.
3. Disconnect propeller shaft at front axle and support out of way.
4. Disconnect vent hose, then remove drive axle to output shaft bolts.
5. Remove tube to carrier bolts, then disconnect drive axle from output shaft and support out of way.
6. Remove axle tube support bracket to frame nuts.
7. Remove upper and lower mounting bolts.
8. Remove carrier and tube assembly.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
