Dear GMC Truck Owner:

Duty Trucks where the windshield washer pump motor located behind the plastic reservoir General Motors has become aware of a condition on 1985 and some 1986 C/K Model Light may become corroded and shorten the life of the motor. A crimp between the inner and outer fender could divert water onto the pump during a car wash or heavy rain or overfilling of the washer jar could cause drenching of the pump motor, thus causing the pump motor to corrode.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring on your vehicle, a moisture deflector shield has been included with this notice. Installation of this shield will divert water/washer fluid away from the pump motor assembly. Please follow the Service Procedure outlined on the back of this letter for the proper installation of this shield. Your GMC truck dealer will install the shield for you at no charge if you so desire.

We urge you to install or have this shield installed as quickly as possible in order to avoid damage to the washer pump.

If, due to corrosion, the windshield washer pump on your vehicle should need to be replaced within a period of five years from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, GMC Truck will replace the pump at no charge. In the event your GMC truck encounters a failure within the time stated above, please contact your GMC dealer. Instructions have been furnished to GMC dealers for repairing the condifion and handling this Special Policy. Parts are currently available through your dealer.

If you have previously encountered these conditions and paid for all or part of the repairs, you should contact your GMC dealer, who will advise you with regard to obtaining reimbursement. You should present the dealer with your original paid receipts or invoices verifying expenses incurred for such repairs.

We suggest you retain this letter and store it in the glove compartment, along with the Owner's Manual, Maintenance Guide, and Warranty Folder.

The enclosed Owner Reply Card identifies your vehicle. Presenting the card to your dealer will assist in completing the services in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please complete the postage-paid card and return it to us. This will assist us in notifying other affected owners.

GMC is taking this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
